# Keyword Position Tracking

> The Keywords page: tracked keywords with Google positions and changes, volume, difficulty, intent, Search Console and AI status, competitors in the top ten, SERP features, the keyword detail and Track in AI answers.

## Overview

**Keywords → Keywords** (`/keywords`) is the home of the module: one row per keyword you track for the selected site, with where it ranks on Google, what Search Console sees, whether AI answers cite you, whether an article exists, and an opportunity score that puts the best next move at the top. Click a row to open the keyword detail.

<Note>
Included from Starter. How many keywords you can track and how often they are checked follow your plan's pool: Starter 200 checked weekly, Pro 1,000 and Business 2,500 checked every 3 days, shared across your sites. See [Your tracking allowance](/keywords/overview#your-tracking-allowance). Positions taken from the organic list and **Import organic keywords** need the organic list, which Pro and Business build.
</Note>

## Adding keywords

The **Add keywords** button in the header opens a menu:

| Item | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Paste keywords** | A dialog for your own keywords, one per line or comma separated, with an optional **List**. Duplicates are skipped and positions are checked as soon as the keywords are added. |
| **Import from Search Console** | Tracks the site's top 50 Search Console queries of the last 90 days by clicks. Needs Google Search Console connected with data synced. |
| **Import organic keywords** | Tracks the site's top 50 organic keywords by estimated traffic, with volume and difficulty filled in. Needs the organic list on file. |
| **Research a keyword** | Opens Keyword research. |
| **Competitor keywords** | Opens Competitor keywords. |

While the list is empty the page shows the same shortcuts as buttons: **Track top Search Console queries**, **Track top organic keywords** and **Paste keywords**. For a new site Sight runs the first import on its own; see [How a new site gets its first keywords](/keywords/overview#how-a-new-site-gets-its-first-keywords).

New keywords join your tracking pool while there is room and get a first position check right away. When the pool is full they are added without checks and marked **not tracked**.

## The table

Sorted by **Score** by default. The tabs above the table read **Keywords** (with the count) and **Competitors**.

| Column | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Keyword** | The phrase, its list badge, a brand chip for your own or a competitor's brand, and under it the page that ranks for it. |
| **Intent** | I, N, C or T: informational, navigational, commercial, transactional. |
| **Score** | Opportunity score from 0 to 100. It weighs search volume, difficulty, how close you are to page one and whether you already have an article, with bonuses for an AI citation gap and for searches Google already shows you for with few clicks. Hover the header on any column for its definition. |
| **Google** | Your position at the last check, with the 7-day change beside it. An **org** tag means the position comes from the organic list because the keyword has no rank check yet; **not tracked** means it sits outside the pool. |
| **Search Console** | Clicks and impressions for the exact query over the last 28 days. |
| **Volume** | Average monthly searches in the site's country. |
| **KD** | Keyword difficulty from 0 to 100, colored by band: Easy (green), Medium (yellow), Hard (orange), Very hard (red). |
| **AI** | How many of the prompts linked to this keyword cite your site, as cited over checked, for example 2/5. **pending** means prompts are tracked but no answer has come back yet. |
| **Article** | **Published**, **Scheduled**, **Ready** or **No article**. |
| Pen icon | Opens the agent to write an article for the keyword, or to improve the existing one. |

## Filters, search and export

Above the table sits a search box that matches keywords, ranking pages and list names, then four menus:

| Menu | Options |
| - | - |
| **Position** | Any position, Top 3, Top 10, 11 to 20, 21 and beyond, Not ranking |
| **Article** | Any article state, Has an article, No article yet |
| **AI** | Any AI status, AI cites you, AI gap (checked, not cited), Answers pending, No prompts yet |
| **List** | All keywords, No list, each of your lists, Create new list |

The **Lists** button manages your lists in place. **CSV** downloads every row that matches the current filters and **Copy for AI** copies them as a Markdown table to paste into ChatGPT, Claude or a document. A link such as `/keywords?topic=<list>` opens the page filtered to one list, and `/keywords?keyword=<phrase>` opens it with that keyword's detail.

## Bulk actions

Select rows with the checkboxes and a bar appears above the table:

* **Options**: **Export CSV** of the selection, or **Clear selection**.
* **Track** and **Untrack**: add the selection to the tracking pool or take it out. Untracked keywords keep their data and history; only the checks stop.
* **Move to list**: one of your lists, **No list**, or **New list…**, which creates the list and moves the selection into it.
* **Sync to WordPress** (or Webflow, Shopify, Wix, HubSpot, or **Send webhook**): shown when the selection includes ready articles and a CMS is connected, and enabled once every selected keyword's article is ready.
* **Create N articles**: opens the bulk article dialog for the selected keywords that have no article yet, with your credit budget shown beside it.
* **Delete selected**: the keywords leave the list and their checks stop. Articles already written stay where they are. Adding the same keyword back later restores it with its ranking history.

## Checking positions

Each check fetches one Google results page per keyword, in the site's country and language, down to position 20 by default. It records your best position, the page that ranks, the top ten results, the features on the page (AI Overview, People also ask, Featured snippet, Videos, Ads and so on) and the People also ask questions.

Scheduled checks run on your plan's cadence. **Check positions** in the header runs the whole pool now; it waits for your plan's gap since the last run (Starter 24 hours, Pro 6, Business 2) and tells you how long is left if you click early. Keywords you have just added are checked immediately regardless. The stamp beside the button reads "Checked 2 hours ago".

## The Competitors tab

Once competitors are set on the [Competitor keywords](/keywords/competitor-keywords) page, every check also records where they land in the top ten for your tracked keywords. The tab shows one card per competitor ("12 in top 10", on how many keywords it is above you, and its average position) and a table with the keyword, **You**, one column per competitor and **Holds #1**. A competitor's position is highlighted when it is ahead of yours.

## The keyword detail

Clicking a row opens the detail panel on the right.

* **Header**: the position in words ("Page one · position 7", "Not in the top 20"), the ranking page, when it was checked, a **List** select, and badges for the article and AI status.
* **Buttons**: **Write an article** or **Improve the article**, **Track in AI answers**, **Refresh data** (fetches volume, difficulty and a fresh position now) and **Open ranking page**.
* **Difficulty band**: the KD gauge with its advice, the average referring domains of the top 10, the intent chips, and a **Full overview** button to Keyword research.
* **Tiles**: Volume, CPC, Clicks, Impressions, Click rate and GSC position (Search Console, 28 days).
* **What to do next**: a short numbered list of advice built from the numbers above.

Then five tabs:

| Tab | What is in it |
| - | - |
| **Position** | The position over the last 90 days as a line (lower is better, unranked days are gaps), the 7-day and 30-day change, and the features on the results page at the last check. |
| **Who ranks** | The top ten at the last check with **You** and **Competitor** badges, and one card per competitor showing its position and whether it is ahead of or behind you. |
| **People also ask** | The questions Google shows under the keyword. **Track** one, **Track these questions**, or **Write an article that answers them**. |
| **Search Console** | Impressions, clicks and average position for the exact query, the pages Google showed for it, and a note when more than one of your pages competes for it. |
| **AI answers** | The tracked prompts that cover the keyword, with cited over checked, a badge per platform, and the latest Google AI Mode result. **Track more questions** or **Open AI visibility**. |

Under the tabs, **Tracking** sets this one keyword's **Device** (desktop or mobile), **Country** and **Language**. Site default is the site's locale on desktop; the next scheduled check uses the change.

## Track in AI answers

**Track in AI answers** turns a keyword into tracked prompts for [AI visibility](/ai-visibility/tracked-prompts). The dialog offers three sources:

* **The keyword as a question**, phrased for you, for example "What are the best options for helpdesk automation?".
* **Questions Google shows for it**: the People also ask questions not yet tracked, the first three preselected.
* **Your own questions, one per line**.

The button reads **Track N prompts**. Each prompt is created once (an existing prompt with the same text is reused), linked back to the keyword, and checked for the first time within the hour. The link is what fills the keyword's **AI** column and **AI answers** tab.

<Tip>
Sort by **Score**, set **Position** to **11 to 20** and **Article** to **No article yet**. Those are the keywords one new page can push onto page one.
