Understanding Positions

Track where your brand ranks when AI models list recommendations or comparisons.

What Are Positions?

When AI models respond to questions like "What are the best CRM tools?" or "Top marketing automation platforms," they often list multiple brands in order. Your position is where your brand appears in that list.

The Positions tab shows you how each of your tracked prompts performs, including your visibility rate, average ranking position, and sentiment.

Why Positions Matter

Position in AI responses is like ranking on page one of Google:

  • Higher positions get more attention – Users focus on the first few recommendations
  • Position indicates authority – AI ranks brands it considers most relevant first
  • Competitive benchmark – See how you compare to competitors
  • Conversion potential – Being mentioned first drives more consideration

Reading the Positions Table

Key Columns

  • Prompt – The question or query being asked to AI models
  • Visibility – What percentage of AI responses mention your brand
  • Position – Your average ranking position (1 = first mentioned)
  • Sentiment – How positively AI speaks about your brand
  • Competitors – Other brands mentioned in responses

Prompt Types

Filter prompts by type using the dropdown:

  • Non-Branded Prompts – Generic questions that don't mention your brand (e.g., "best project management tools")
  • Branded Prompts – Questions that include your brand name
  • All Prompts – See everything together

Focus on non-branded prompts – These show your organic visibility when users aren't specifically asking about you.

How to Improve Your Positions

1. Target Low-Visibility Prompts

Prompts where you have 0% visibility are your biggest opportunities:

  • Create comprehensive content around these topics
  • Get mentioned on authoritative sites covering these subjects
  • Build topical authority in these areas

2. Improve Existing Positions

If you're being mentioned but not in top positions:

  • Enhance your content to be more comprehensive
  • Build more authoritative backlinks
  • Get more reviews and testimonials
  • Ensure your content is up-to-date

3. Monitor Changes Over Time

Positions can fluctuate as AI models update. Track trends to:

  • Identify when positions improve or drop
  • Correlate changes with your content efforts
  • Catch problems early before visibility drops significantly
