Overview
IndexNow is a protocol that allows you to instantly notify search engines when content on your website is created, updated, or deleted. Instead of waiting for search engines to discover your new content through crawling, IndexNow pushes the information directly to them.
Sight AI integrates with IndexNow to automatically submit your newly published articles to Bing, Yandex, and other participating search engines—ensuring your content gets indexed as fast as possible.
How It Works
When you publish an article through Sight AI:
- Your article is synced to your CMS (WordPress, Webflow, etc.)
- Sight AI sends an IndexNow ping to participating search engines
- Search engines receive the URL and prioritize crawling it
- Your content appears in search results faster
Participating Search Engines
IndexNow submissions are shared across all participating search engines:
- Bing – Microsoft's search engine
- Yandex – Russia's largest search engine
- Seznam – Czech Republic's search engine
- Naver – South Korea's largest search engine
Note: Google does not currently participate in IndexNow. For Google indexing, use the Google Search Console integration.
Setup Instructions
Step 1: Enable IndexNow
- Go to your Site Settings in Sight AI
- Navigate to the Indexing section
- Toggle "Enable IndexNow" on
Step 2: Verify Your Domain (Optional)
Sight AI handles IndexNow authentication automatically using our API key. However, if you want to use your own key:
- Generate an IndexNow key (any string of 8+ alphanumeric characters)
- Create a text file with that key as both the filename and content
- Upload it to your website root (e.g.,
https://yoursite.com/your-key.txt) - Enter the key in Sight AI's IndexNow settings
Step 3: Start Publishing
That's it! From now on, every article you publish through Sight AI will automatically be submitted to IndexNow.
What Gets Submitted
When you publish or update an article, we submit:
- URL – The full URL of your published article
- Host – Your website domain
- Key – The IndexNow API key for authentication
Viewing Submission Status
You can see the IndexNow submission status for each article:
- Go to the Planner
- Click on any published article
- Check the Indexing section
- You'll see whether IndexNow submission was successful
Status Meanings
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Submitted | URL was successfully sent to IndexNow |
| Pending | Submission is queued and will be sent shortly |
| Failed | Submission encountered an error (click to retry) |
| Not Enabled | IndexNow is not enabled for this site |
Benefits of IndexNow
- Faster indexing – Content appears in search results within hours, not days
- Reduced crawl load – Search engines don't need to constantly crawl your site
- Automatic updates – Changes to articles are also submitted
- Zero cost – IndexNow is completely free to use
Troubleshooting
Submission Failed
- Check your domain: Ensure your site URL is correctly configured
- Verify key file: If using a custom key, ensure the verification file is accessible
- Check article URL: Make sure the published URL is valid and public
- Retry: Click the retry button to resubmit
Content Not Appearing in Bing
IndexNow tells Bing about your content, but doesn't guarantee immediate indexing:
- Allow 24-48 hours for Bing to process the submission
- Check Bing Webmaster Tools for crawl status
- Ensure your page isn't blocked by robots.txt
- Verify your content is high quality and unique
IndexNow vs Google Search Console
| Feature | IndexNow | Google Search Console |
|---|---|---|
| Google Support | No | Yes |
| Bing Support | Yes | No |
| Setup Complexity | Simple toggle | OAuth connection |
| Submission Type | Instant push | Sitemap-based |
Recommendation: Enable both integrations for maximum search engine coverage.
