Overview
Google AI Mode is Google’s conversational search. Instead of a list of links, Google writes a full answer and links to the pages it drew on. People use it the way they use ChatGPT or Perplexity, so being one of the pages it cites matters as much as ranking on the classic results page. The Google AI Mode page shows, for each tracked prompt, whether AI Mode’s answer linked to one of your pages, which pages it linked to, and which domains it cites instead of you. It lives under AI Search → Google AI Mode atapp.trysight.ai/visibility/ai-mode.
Included from Pro. On other plans the Google AI Mode row in the platform picker reads “Included on Pro” and cannot be turned on.
How a prompt gets checked
Google AI Mode is a platform in the prompt picker, next to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok. Sight AI only asks AI Mode about the prompts that have it turned on. There are two ways to turn it on:- Per prompt. On AI Search → Prompts, open a prompt’s Platforms cell, or select several prompts and click Set platforms, and tick Google AI Mode in the Choose AI Platforms dialog. The same row is in the Add Single Prompt and Generate Prompts with AI flows.
- Site default. In the Visibility step of your site’s setup, the AI platforms picker has the same Google AI Mode row. Every prompt that uses the site default platforms follows it.
What a check costs
Every AI Mode check of one prompt bills 2 AI credits, a flat published price, billed the same way as the other AI visibility checks. The picker shows the price on the row and folds it into the per-check total and the monthly estimate.- Sight AI bills one AI Mode answer per prompt per day. A second run on the same day skips prompts that already have an answer.
- A run stops cleanly when your team runs out of credits. Prompts it did not reach are checked on the next run.
When checks run
- Weekly. AI Mode runs once a week, early on Monday (UTC), whatever recheck cadence your site uses for the other platforms. The monthly estimate in the picker counts it as four checks a month.
- On demand. Click Run check on the page. Prompts already answered today are skipped, and results update as the rest are checked.
Refresh cooldown
Run check runs the same live checks as the weekly run, so it can only start again once the last run is old enough for your plan:
Inside that window the button answers with a message saying when the next run can start. Scheduled checks keep running meanwhile.
What the page shows
The Checked stamp beside Run check shows when the last check finished.Summary tiles
Prompts table
One row per prompt with Google AI Mode on, plus any prompt with an answer from the last 60 days.
Use the Status filter (All prompts, Cited, Not cited, Newly cited, Lost citation, Not checked, Not selected) and the search box to narrow the list. The CSV button downloads every row that matches the current search and filters, including the sources and the check date.
A prompt counts as cited when the answer links to one of your pages. The position is where your first page sits in the answer’s list of sources.
Answer details
Click a prompt to open it. The panel shows:- What AI Mode answered: the start of the answer text.
- Your pages it cited when you are cited, or Sources it cited when you are not: every page the answer linked to, each with a link.
- Write content for this prompt on prompts you are not cited on, which opens the agent.
Cited instead of you
Lists the domains AI Mode links to on the prompts where it does not link to you: how many of those prompts each domain appears on, and how many of its pages are cited. These are the sites winning the answers you want. The “Google AI Mode citation lost” alert
When a prompt that AI Mode cited at the previous check is not cited at this one, Sight AI records a Google AI Mode citation lost alert (ai_mode_lost). It names the prompts and links back to this page.
Like every SEO alert rule, it starts off. Turn it on, and choose email, Slack or a webhook, under Settings → Site → SEO Alerts. SEO alerts are included from Business. See SEO Alerts.
