Overview
History is the long view of a site: month by month, how many Google keywords it ranks for, how much organic traffic that is worth in visits, and how its backlink profile has grown. Sight stores 24 months of both series for every site on an SEO plan and shows the window your plan includes.Available on every plan. The window grows with the plan: Starter six months, Pro a year, Business two years.
What is stored
Two monthly series, one point per month:
Each refresh pulls the full 24 months, so an upgrade shows more history at once: nothing has to be collected first.
The plan window
The latest months on file are shown. A young domain, or one the databases only started tracking recently, may have fewer points than the window allows. On plans below Business, a line under the charts names the next plan and how much history it shows.
Where it shows
History at a glance
The History at a glance card is on Home → Overview (/dashboard) for every plan, and again on SEO Suite → Overview (/seo) from Pro. It draws four small charts over the plan’s window:
- Organic keywords
- Est. organic traffic / month
- Backlinks
- Referring domains
Domain rank in the Outreach and Collaboration setup screens
The Your Domain Rating panel that introduces Outreach and the Collaboration page charts the last 12 months of the backlink series’ domain rank when it is on file, with the change over those months, instead of the illustrative curve.Other history on the SEO pages
Two other kinds of history live on their own pages and are not part of the plan window:- Search clicks and impressions, 16 months, on SEO Suite → Overview, comes from the site’s own Search Console data.
- Keyword position history, in the keyword drawer on the Keywords pages, comes from Sight’s own position checks (90 days by default, up to a year).
Refresh and schedule
- First load. For a new site the first pull is part of the site’s first SEO snapshot, queued when the site is configured after being added. If the card is still empty, Load history pulls it on the spot.
- Every two weeks. The Monday 04:00 UTC run refreshes both series for every site with the SEO module, every two weeks per site. A site nobody has opened an SEO page for in 30 days sits it out.
- A refresh is two lookups, one per series, against the site’s daily lookup budget.
Frequently asked questions
I upgraded. When do I see the longer window?
I upgraded. When do I see the longer window?
Right away. The full 24 months are already stored; only the window the charts show changes with the plan.
Why does the backlinks chart differ from the Backlinks page tiles?
Why does the backlinks chart differ from the Backlinks page tiles?
The tiles are the latest refresh of the backlink index; the chart is the monthly series, which keeps the last point of each month. They agree on the trend, not always on the day.
Why is there a gap or a late start?
Why is there a gap or a late start?
The series are only as old as the databases’ coverage of the domain. The latest months on file are shown, so a domain that was first tracked a year ago shows a year even on Business.
Can I refresh the history myself?
Can I refresh the history myself?
Yes, while the card is empty: Load history pulls both series on the spot. Once loaded, the card refreshes on the two-week schedule.
Where do the numbers come from?
Where do the numbers come from?
The organic series is a monthly domain overview of the site in Google; the backlink series is the monthly history of the same link database that feeds the Backlinks page. Neither reads Search Console.
